Influences on his work range from the 17th Century Dutch Flemish painters to local 20th Century period artists. When he creates portraits, figurative works, still life's, and seascapes, he strives for a painterly illumination, and not merely to have his painting "look of a time passed." His goal is to articulate and capture the moment.He was educated in Massachusetts at Duxbury High School, and the Massachusetts College of Art. He also studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. His mentors include Peter Quidley and Polly Thayer, and he studied under Bernard Cheat and Robert Douglas Hunter
