The Red Umbrella

Arthur Bjorn Egeli (b. 1964) is an award-winning third-generation painter.  Educated at the Severn School, he studied color with Henry Hensche, who had a major influence upon his style, as did his parents and grandparents. His Norwegian-American grandfather, Bjorn Egeli, painted official portraits of Nixon and Eisenhower, and his parents, Joanette and Cedric, are among the most sought after portrait painters in the country.  There are a dozen painters in Arthur's family. Represented by the Wohlfarth Gallery as well as his own Egeli Gallery in Provincetown, and galleries in California, Arthur Egeli has participated in countless exhibitions and shows. His paintings are in numerous private and corporate collections, including McGraw-Hill Publishing in New York City. He was awarded the William Schultz Award for Oil Painting by the American Impressionists Society, and won the Award of Merit by the Portrait Society of America for two consecutive years. In 2004 he won an award for composition at the Paint Annapolis Exhibition, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association. This piece was a gift from the artist, who graciously signed the reverse and presented it to us.
